When I was caring for my late husband, who was constantly in and out of the doctor’s offices and hospitals, we actually joked that we spent more holidays in the hospital than out.  One day, when I was on my way home from helping my mother with some stuff with my father's recent passing, I received a call from him telling me that he had called 911 and that he was heading to the hospital. I told him I would be on my way. Long story short, his mother went into the same ER on the same day with a heart condition. He coded during the night, but they were able to get him back with CPR. The next day, I was asked to make what I saw as an impossible decision: whether to sign a Do Not Resuscitate order. I didn't know what to do, so I called our family doctor. He told me, "Sometimes God needs CPR to make a Miracle." That was it.  Decision made.  Weight lifted.  I chose not to sign the order. Unfortunately, he did pass away the next evening. But because of the CPR and the amazing hospital staff, he made it to my daughter’s 17th birthday, and his mother was able to come up to his room to say a final goodbye to her son.
